  1. You

Table for 4 on Friday at 8, under Chan. Take a deposit.

  2. Workie

Done. Friday at 8:00 pm, 4 guests, under Chan. I sent a $40 deposit link to their number and will tell you when it is paid.

  3. You

Take the sea bass off tonight. Add lamb shoulder at 28.

  4. Workie

Menu updated. Sea bass is off. Lamb shoulder at $28 is on tonight's menu. The QR code and the web menu already show the change.

  5. Workie

One more thing. Mrs Lee booked for Saturday. That is her sixth visit since spring, and she usually asks for the window table.

  6. You

Party of 3 at the door. About 20 minutes.

  7. Workie

On the waitlist. I texted them the wait time. When a table is free, I will text them to come in.

  8. You

Someone left 2 stars: “Waited 40 minutes. The soup was cold.”

  9. Workie

Here is a reply for you to approve: “Thank you for telling us. Forty minutes is too long, and the soup should have been hot. We are sorry. Please come again; the soup is on us.” Say yes and I will post it.

An ordinary evening, written the way you would actually type it.

What Workie does

Bookings
Tables, tastings and appointments. Workie takes them, confirms them and sends a reminder the day before.
Menu
Tell it what is on tonight. The menu link and the QR code on your wall update at once.
Sold out
Say “take the sea bass off”. It is gone from the menu, the QR code and the web page at once. Say it is back, and it is back.
Deposits
A payment link in your currency, sent inside the chat. No new card machine.
Regulars
Who they are, what they like and when they last came in. Workie remembers, so you do not have to.
Opening hours
Tell Workie your hours and the days you close. The web page, the booking link and anyone who asks all get the same answer.

Through the day

One day with Workie

Five small jobs, each done with one message.

  1. 10:00

    Today's special, in one line.

Type “Today: braised pork belly, 22.” Workie puts it at the top of the menu and takes it down at close.

    On the menu

Today's special: braised pork belly, $22. Until close.

  2. 14:00

Closed for the holiday, with no phone calls.

Say “closed next Tuesday”. Workie changes the hours, tells anyone who tries to book, and asks you about the bookings already on that day, one by one.

    To guests

We are closed on Tuesday 2 September for the holiday. We open again on Wednesday at 11:00.

  3. 19:00

A walk-in waits without standing at the door.

Say “party of 3, 20 minutes”. Workie texts the guest the wait, and texts again when the table is ready. Nobody has to stand by the door.

    Text to guest

Your table for 3 is ready. Please come to the door.

  4. 22:30

    A hard review, answered calmly.

Paste the review. Workie drafts a short, polite reply. Nothing is posted until you say yes.

    Draft, waiting for your yes

Thank you for telling us. Forty minutes is too long, and the soup should have been hot. We are sorry. Please come again; the soup is on us.

  5. 23:00

A note for the next shift, written for you.

At the end of the night, ask for the handover. Workie writes down what the next shift needs to know.

    Handover, Friday

42 covers. Sea bass is off until Tuesday. Mrs Lee, Saturday 7:30 pm, window table. Chan's deposit is paid. Two walk-ins left; no charge.
